Prilep, day 2

This morning we climbed up the hills behind our apartment to some fortifications dating from the 1300s, known as Marko's Towers.

Travel day to Prilep, North Macedonia

Today we drove to Prilep, North Macedonia in a very round about way in order to see a few points of interest.

A monument at Mečkin Kamen commemorating a 1903 battle between Macedonian rebels and the occupying Ottomans. When the rebels ran out of ammunition they began throwing boulders at the Ottomans.

This morning we walked to the ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis, an ancient Greek city at the outskirts of Bitola

Bitola, day 2

This morning we drove to the nearby Pelister National Park. This area was on the front lines in WWI.

The have a short trail with a number of signs explaining what happen in that area during the First World War.

We visited the Bitola museum

An entire room was dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern day Turkey. The museum used to be a military school and Atatürk attended here.
